I like Upma so much that I used to miss it when I was away from home.Being brought up in a South Indian family I was used to eating Upma for breakfast .The upma we made at home was sweet .I used to like it a lot
But when one day I tasted the maharashtrian variant it was better than the one which we made.Basically they add salt instead of sugar and that tasted better to me .Over the years though i never took interest in how it was made assuming that it would be a difficult recipe.
When you are away from home though and have loads of time to kill .Then you get time to try everything. And today I finally made Upma all by my own :-)
Recipe is simple.
1.Roast rava till its hot.(1 cup)
2.Fry onions and mustard seeds in a kadhai.
3.Add ginger chillies curry leaves etc..
4.When the onions turn transaparent add water(2 cups) and salt.
5.When water starts boiling add the roasted rava slowly while you are stirring continuously on low flame.
6.Let it on for 6-7 minutes and you will know when its ready .
Special thanks to http://www.padhuskitchen.com/ for the recipe.
