A rapidly growing nation will always have increased emissions and worsening air quality.The poor situation has been highlighted in the last decade as the world faces drastic climate changes.The issues are more prominently observed in the developing world.India & China leading the show.
India has now started taking this seriously and is committed to improving our environment for the benefit of the world and our countrymen
In 2015, Government of India, together with IIT launched the National Air Quality Index.We did NOT have a standard simple air quality measurement methodology in place before and it was more of voluminous data
In 2019, India launched 'The National Clean Air Programme' with tentative national target of 20%-30% reduction in PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations by 2024, considering 2017 as the base year for comparison. It will be rolled out in 102 cities that are considered to have air quality worse than the National Ambient Air Quality Standards.
The government has also taken several bold initiatives, including leap-frogging from BS-IV to BS-VI

India's new vehicle scrap policy was given 'in-principle' approval to pave way to remove 20-year-old commercial vehicles from April 1, 2020.
